GQ Style leaves little to the imagination

I saw this magazine in of all places Baguio (Mio Mag) and well, its provocative (hah!) cover got my attention. But the price was to steep for me; if my memory serves me right, it's between P880-1000++. As always say, I'd rather get Wallpaper (the mag) or something else for that price premium. Heck, probably just something from Topman. Haha! Anyway I forgot about it until now when I saw it again here.

In this issue, Tom ford talks about (how do i say this???) "naked men" and he said some interesting things. Here are some that I would like to quote:

"As much as I've tried, it has been consistently harder to get images of nude men onto magazine pages and billboards than it has nude women. In a society where images of brutal violence are consumed during breakfast, the male nude is one of our last taboos. There's a double standard at play here: magazines that are happy to fund ads featuring an artfully lit female nude will balk at an image of her male counterpart."

"Women may have a hard time understanding this, but imagine if, when they were dressing for a party, their breasts looked great, and then, just as they were stepping out of the taxi to enter the restaurant, their breasts withered to a sad, wrinkled little things. Perhaps the unpredictability of the penis can make us nervous about taking our clothes off."

"With a more natural relationship to nudity, we might also be freed up to find each other a lot more fascinating. There's an equality to being naked; the fewer clothes and accessories a person wears the less you judge them, and the more you notice their truest traits, like their eyes or their charisma, their great hands or their one-of-a-kind hair or, most importantly, their personality and character. As much as I love clothing, it gives us one more layer to hide behind."

More HERE.

I'm not so much into nudity (art-ey or otherwise) and all that jazz (was, still and will be??) that's why I didn't much like TF then. But the things he said were just thought provoking. Or something.

BTW, speaking of Tom Ford, I just got Prestige Magazine (Hong Kong) (c/o my friend Bea--thanks!!)—the one with Tom Ford in it. I haven't read his interview/the whole thing yet. If I find something nice and interesting, I'd try to post it here. :-)

Preview Magazine April 2008

Preview April 2008
HOT! (click to view in full size glory)

Hot! I first saw this on TV (of all places, TV Patrol). I really love the excitement of seeing the new issue every time I go to the newsstands/bookstores to get my copy. But this time, I didn't feel it as I saw it on TV first and then online. Haha But still, it's quite nice. Although I would've loved it more if they, as I always said/say/will say, featured a non-celeb/star. Right?? ;-)

Anyway, in the editor's letter, Pauline Juan said that they were supposed to make a green issue but they can't because they can't find enough material for it. Ngek. She said that she hopes that a demand for green fashion would grow out of this issue (they have articles about eco-fashion). All I can say is why wait for a demand when they create it? Hmmm.

After reading and flipping through the issue, I found it bitin. I want more! More! 3 editorials (1 cover ed + 2 editorials) is quite bitin. hehe

This issue is the annual bikini special! The bikini shots though quite have a thin (i mean THIN) border between FHM & non-FHM sleazy and sexy. Thanks to photographer Charles Lu's taste and view, this issue's bikini special is not much sleazy. There's a little (little??) bit of extra skin here and extra dough there but...it's a bikini special (afterall).

Anyway, nice editorial features in here, especially the columns of Lourd de Veyra and Butch Dalisay–good read. I like de Veyra's writing; it's funny. In one part, he said that he could hear his "heart being ripped into lettuce shreds for tacos"! haha. He is ranting about how Apple breaks its fanboys hearts by making one breakthrough gadget shortly after the other. Really sad! I'm not directly affected no since I use a PC at home I only get to use a Mac at school. But still. On the other hand, Butch Dalisay's article is also nice. I actually share the same opinion with him regarding 'naked gadgets'. Like him, i like my gadgets naked–without fancy pouches, bags, cases and whatnot. I can still remember when I said to a friend that what's the use of a sexy iPhone if you just end up covering it with skins and crystal cases, all that jazz. The only justifiable 'clothing' for that sexy naked iPhone is probably an equally sexy designer case (read LV, Hermes). Hah!

And oh, they still don't have a review of the Macbook Air. According to them, it's gonna come next issue. Ngek.

Beyond Magazine is the coolest in-flight magazine i've seen so far. Or probably, I have not checked out other airlines' in-flight magazines (I'm pretty sure they've got something cool too) but either way this is still one cool mag. Now, if I could only have a stewardess friend or a frequent flier friend who could give me an extra copy of this magazine every month. haha! :-)

Thanks Kervin for the Mag! :-)

The Hard Labor of Manual Binding

Haggardness :-S

These fingers have been itching to blog because there's a lot to be blogged about recently (for me at least, like my thoughts on our recent photoshoot, Kitty Go's 10 cents worth about GG and BG, Naomi spitting, and a lot more) but I'm so occupied with Cyanide (!). I finished it finally last weekend but still can't finalize the site/download as i don't know how to secure that thing, and i dunno too where to upload it. Also, i want my friends to see it first before the world (oh as if people would flock to Cyanide's blog like this is some sort of Viktor & Rolf or CDG/Rei Kawabuko creation for H&M haha).

Anyway, these hands have been busy since, uh, yesterday cutting and folding and pasting and binding like it's the 18th century again. haha The only high-tech thing i used was the printer. I only used paste, a tiny cutter, scissors and a ruler! I just got the giant cutter (and by giant i mean GIANT, i'll show later) I borrowed later in the afternoon, two cutter-cut magazines later. Oh the labor! haha Talk about (serious_ desktop publishing. It's quite fun though–i felt like a school kid doing his art project. :-) And yes, I know I could search online but that would double production time. (With all the blogs I have been reading and following and all the treasures and fun finds i see online...heeeheheheheheeheee)

It's quite rough around the edges (literally) but I liked the outcome(s) so far. Watch out for Cyanide as I might upload it this weekend (or Saturday night if i'm lucky). Have a happy weekend! :-)
